An ex-cop told me they carry bunches of burning joss sticks into decomp scenes. The joss sticks mask the smell and more importantly prevents the decomp smell from sticking to their clothes. I was wondering about that contaminating a potential crime scene, but he was a beat cop and I guess his main job was just to secure the scene rather than carry out detailed examinations.
