Because there is so much gore and other horrible death on display here, people often react with a hard boiled, cynical attitude, empathy being dangerous to their psyche as it costs something, involves something human. Heaven knows, I am as guilty of this sort of thing as anybody on DR - tell me to look in the mirror and I will do it. When it is the death of strangers that the hard nosed, insensitive cynics react to, nobody here is personally hurt. You, however, shared the tragic death of a loved one and so laid yourself open to responses which cut deeply. That took courage. I can personally empathize with that. While my situation in no way resembles the seriousness of your brother's, I have been taking oxycodone on a daily basis, under a DR's prescription, for over eight years because of chronic pain due to permanent nerve damage. To this point I have exercised the discipline needed to keep the dosage at safe levels, but the risk of abuse - take a little more than is strictly needed to feel even "better" - is always present. I don't kid myself about that. |

Came very close to losing my younger brother in a very similar way. Actually did lose him really, the spark is gone. It kind of helped a lot to fuck my life up too, even though I've never touched the scummy shit. So not much sympathy from me. 2 weeks from becoming a father and he's off tooting dodgy street smack?
