Off-Duty Memphis Officer Jeremy Kyle Shot Dead Breaking Into Ex's Home, 2007
On the morning of June 3, 2007, Jeremy Kyle, 27, an off-duty Memphis police officer, kicked through the back entrance of his former girlfriend's residence on Breezy Gate Drive near Cordova, in unincorporated Shelby County, Tennessee. Kyle carried a personal handgun and aimed it at Teresita Watson, 27, his ex-girlfriend and another Memphis officer, and Justin Davis, 22, who was there with her. Davis discharged the gun three times as they fought for control of it. Kyle was killed in the hallway, while a bullet grazed Watson's stomach. She received treatment and was released. Investigators concluded Kyle never fired his weapon. Upstairs at the time, Watson's three children escaped injury. Deputies had responded to the home on two earlier occasions because of disputes between the couple. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office forwarded the matter to the district attorney. Contemporaneous reporting said Davis was considered unlikely to face charges, and none were reported. |
