CT National Guard truck involved in fatal NY crash

PORT CHESTER, NY (WTNH) — One person is reported dead in a crash involving a Connecticut National Guard vehicle on I-95 in Port Chester, New York.

LOHUD.com reports the crash happened around 10:20 a.m. right at Exit 21, where I-95 southbound connects with I-287.

In a statement, the National Guard said “a Connecticut Army National Guard vehicle transporting training material to Fort Dix, New Jersey, was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident on I95 southbound in Port Chester, New York this morning. Civilian and military authorities are investigating.”

A Report It picture sent to News 8 shows the military truck on its roof, and people laying on the ground. Some of those people were being treated for injuries.

One lane of traffic was getting by the crash scene. The Connecticut Department of Transportation reports:

Code:
Delays. I-95 Southbound is congested at
the New York State line due to an accident in
New York (4.6 miles).
Reported Thursday, August 7 at 10:31 am.
No details were available on when the crash scene
 would be cleared.
Names of the victims have not yet been released.

Shit, you beat me to it!

But seriously, my heart goes out to the soldier's family. They died in the service of their country. May they rest in peace.
