Re: Mummified Body of German Adventurer Found in Drifting Yacht
trust me, i believe your translation, and im certain they said and meant 7 days. Thats how fucked up these other countries are that dont take Forensics and CSI seriously. Hell i live half an hour away from the worlds first Body farm. At the university of tennessee. I went to college there and we all thought it was crazy as shit. It all makes since to me in my older years. You could smell that place walking to class. Its in the middle of campus surrounded by a 6ft unpainted wooden fence. Apparently the professor is the first person to document the timeframe for bugs and insects and shit to work on a body. And also to document decomposition stages in all conditions and scenarios. Its fucking nuts. But it served the greater good.

Re: Mummified Body of German Adventurer Found in Drifting Yacht
From what I read, the man left Germany 20 years ago and apparently was yachting around for 20 years, with his last facebook post being a year ago, wishing a friend a happy birthday. I can kind of believe it being seven days, with the moisture and salt in the air and water, but I kind of can't. The leg that is shown almost looks like it's been decomposing with muscle being exposed with visible thigh bone. |

I live a couple counties over where they are planning an extension of the body farm.. they will have more space and new settings to place the bodies. The exact location is supposed to be secret.. hope to catch wind of it.. so to speak |

Re: Mummified Body of German Adventurer Found in Drifting Yacht
the meats at body farms are exposed to insects hence time estimate of time of death dep. on devlpment of puppea. > 10 km of sea and strong winds is for most flies not a good deal for reproduction seeing the leg of him, I guess about a month but as there was some water in the cabin... that is really hard |

Re: Mummified Body of German Adventurer Found in Drifting Yacht
a very famous german forensic determined that it very well can be true that the man that died mummified in less than 7 days this dude says so reason for that is rather simple: the summer heat in combination with the salty sea air is speeding up that process, wich is easier with slim people and its important that the air is moved (a little space at the door would be enough) so beeing on the sea , dying and beeing exposed to hot salty air makes a wonderful "do it yourself" mummification kit german source (adblock has to be disabled): german tabloid "bild" |

Re: Mummified Body of German Adventurer Found in Drifting Yacht
I read in an article today that the boat was reported drifting 4 weeks before it was found. I wonder why he didn't call for help if he was still alive then..... interesting. I wonder if they checked if the radio was still working, I would assume they would do. He had enough food and water and say he died of heart attack, so why would the yacht have been drifting with a broken sail 3 weeks before he died?

Re: Mummified Body of German Adventurer Found in Drifting Yacht
My feelings, and certainly my UNprofessional opinion, is they are wrong, either in the translation, or the science, but the dude has definitely been deceased more than a week- he hasn't had any contact with his usual peeps for almost a year, if I'm not mistaken. We all know how unreliable eye witness accounts are, what to one person is a couple of weeks is to another a couple of months. |
