Does anyone know why urine and bowels are relieved in an aaphyxia death but not in a blunt force trauma to the head or fatal gunshot? I would think muscles relax in all death scenarios so that would cause for the bladder and rectum to be vacated ?

They are both evacuated fairly frequently in many types of violent deaths. But it is especially common in asphyxiation. I have a forensics study stored somewhere around here that was conducted in France and one in Denmark which make extensive notes on it.

Off the top of my head, it's around 20% likely to happen in violent deaths from things like gunshots or head trauma and closer to 75% likely to happen with asphyxiation deaths, for male decedents in both cases. Females are about 10% MORE likely to void their bladders (for reasons of simple anatomy), bringing their likelihood in either case closer to 30% and 85% respectively.

Gist of it is, any time you see a photo here of someone who died due to asphyxiation (strangling, hanging, suffocating, choking, etc) there's a very strong chance that they've voided their bowels and bladder. But it isn't always visible, depending on the clothing. We only see this guy's here since he's wearing no pants, I suspect. There was a set here some time ago of a college girl who was also bagged in the same fashion who shit herself badly enough that it soaked through her jeans, but it's quite rare to actually see it.
