Re: Man Wrecks His Pickup - Found a Year Later
As it says in the original post, it happens more often than you'd think. We had something similar near me in the UK. When work was being done either upgrading or closing a major route that skirts round an area of outstanding natural beauty down in a valley, a car was found that had clearly gone off the road and rolled down into the valley where it was hidden by bushes and vegetation. Inside the car were the remains of at least two people. Forensic tests and medical examination showed that they had been down there for some time, certainly more than two years and possibly more than ten. At least the driver of this pickup was probably dead before the vehicle caught fire, but for the people in the car near me there was evidence that strongly suggested that they were alive for some time trapped in the wreckage. That must be an absolutely horrible way to go...

Re: Man Wrecks His Pickup - Found a Year Later
Back in 1986 I responded to a report of a vehicle over the side in an area we call the narrows, its mosquito ridge road east of foresthill ca.shits nearly vertical and in spots close to 2000 foot drops.its close to 50 miles outside of our response area, but lucky us had just gotten to do some repelling training in the same area as where they thought the jeep had went over.we eventually found the damned jeep, which had been stolen and dumped, but we came across the wreckage of a logging truck,my engine mate at the time and I were looking it over, trying to figure out what make it was, found a luck plate, gave it to CHP.we later learned it was off a truck that had gone missing in 1950 something.another crew went up with LE and they were able to find the mans wallet, they found bits of bone here n there, but it was suspected his remains were most likely eaten as what they did find was scattered up to 50 yards away.the man had been a volunteer fireman with my department starting when he returned from WWII Europe.

Re: Man Wrecks His Pickup - Found a Year Later
License plate, not luck plate, fuckin autocorrect.also to be clear, for wild land firefighting in my area,we were contracted to CDF (now .Cal Fire)fore wild land and could respond to anywhere in California southern Oregon or western Nevada,we were even dispatched to the Yellowstone fire, but got diverted to a new fire north of Elko Nv,never got to it either, only thing we got from that were sore asses.we had the old style wild land rigs with the seats for four in the back of the bed,we had two crews of seven men on two engines (from our department) in a "parade" of strike teams,5 engines and a BC per team.we had 6 strike teams in this precession.pretty cool to see that many engines/units from all over Northern California in a line all with the reds on,usually we wouldn't run with the reds,or codes,on when traveling long distances, but the Feds said code three all the way, didn't happen,no sirens, just lights, but at 3am it's was pretty cool to look back and see all those lights.we were the 3rd engine, and it was the front five sent off on a snipe hunt, the fuckers behind us got to see the smoke from Yellowstone at least, but never got closer than a fire camp that was like 50 miles west of the fires.well hell this was most likely a waist of time, but I'm bored...lol

Re: Man Wrecks His Pickup - Found a Year Later
When I was a kid, we were driving down Pyramid highway in Nevada, still a long dirt road through BFE, and I happened to look down a ravine along the road, I saw a wrecked vehicle at the bottom, it was the old 70s and prior powder blue and rolled up, I've always wondered what the story was.
