Bit of a December Courtship gone awry here. Well, October anyway. This 15 year old girl was stabbed to death (12 stab wounds) by her 39 year old husband.

The two of them lived with her mother ( ) and often argued and fought. Her mother was working in the kitchen when she heard them fighting in the bedroom. Like any good mother whose teenage daughter is feuding with her middle-aged husband, she ignored the scuffle and assumed they'd work it out.

Once the blood-curdling screams began, she decided to intervene, but the door was blocked. By the time she got inside, the girl was bleeding out on the floor and the husband had absconded out the window.

Sad fucking deal all around. Easy to blame bad parenting in part, I suppose...but then it's always easy to judge from afar, isn't it? Who knows what went wrong and where. Either way, there were no winners here.

With her looks, she could have done much better. He was old and not rich? That makes no sense. A boy her age who is poor but sweet and must move in with her mom, I could understand. A rich older guy with a mansion, I could get. But an old asshole, way more than twice her age, who is poor? Some girls are just a little too dumb.

I usually let this one go, but since it's my thread, I feel inclined to comment.

This dynamic, while rife with problems, is nowhere close to paedophilia. The age of the older partner (or even the gap) is far less relevant than the age of the younger when making that distinction.

This girl was 15. Not emotionally/mentally mature by any stretch, but a very far cry from the pre-pubescent 'child' status that would make the husband a paedophile. Paedophiles are physically attracted to physical children. 15 year old teenager, in most circumstance, is much closer to being a physical adult than a physical child-especially with regard to female teenagers.

Is it socially and mentally and morally irresponsible for a middle-aged man to court/marry/screw a teenage girl? I'd say so. But the legal age of consent in the majority of the world is 16, so obviously many disagree with me.

The age of consent, legally-speaking, in Mexico is 12 btw.

Anyway, sorry for jumping on you about it. I just don't really care for knee-jerk misconceptions and people making the association between sex with high school students and paedophilia is one of the more irritatingly common ones that I see.

The guy was a loser. A murderer. And very ethically flawed in his choice of a wife. But he wasn't a paedo. At least not based on this circumstance.

No worries, man. I'm just fastidious about definitions, so I'm a bit of a tit when it comes to clearing them up.

And yes, 12 is the 'firm' minimum age of consent in Mexico. Most states there will still slap a 'corruption of minor' charge on someone if it becomes a problem, but not a statutory rape charge. I don't think that 12 is especially common, btw. But it is technically legal.

16 is pretty standard all over the world, though. Especially in the West.
