Re: Man Mauled by His Own Dog

I have worked with dogs for almost 13 years now, and I have been a dog groomer working with dogs day in and day out for the last 3 years.....pit bulls are never a concern for me. They were never a concern in my teens as a bather. Never a concern working kennels at the vet. Nor was I worried about them as a vets assistant. The main breeds that I do worry about on a daily basis are
Australian Shepherds
Shih Tzus
Small poodle mixes
German Shepherds (cause they are dumb as fuck and the biggest fear biters)

Pit bull haters go cry somewhere else.

Re: Man Mauled by His Own Dog

This looks like a bullshit post. First of all, if that IS the dog that attacked this man, why isn't the dog bloody? Are you going to tell me these pictures were taken BEFORE the dog "mauled" him? Second, that pitbull looks pretty submissive to be a killer. Third. I'm a veterinarian technician. And I also own a pitbull. It's NOT the breed fucker.

I respectfully disagree. This is an excellent place to educate yourself about dangerous dogs. Over 700 U.S. cities have enacted breed-specific legislation. Pit-bulls are banned in practically every first world country and there's a valid reason behind it. You need to think outside of the box every now and again and think for yourself.

in theory, they "should" be beautiful dogs - they are part bulldog, so they should have one of the most beautiful temperaments of any dogs

however, as has already been suggested in this thread, the morons of the world own them as a status symbol, and the other issue is that once they are in attack mode, as your pie chart shows they are a very, very dangerous dog

i do not have anything against the breed as such, but i do wonder about many of the owners and how they will influence the dog's behaviour - too often, that is a recipe for disaster

Bulldogs were traditionally used for bull baiting, due to their tremendous jaw strength. Bull baiting was then banned and Bulldog breeders and owners moved to a more humane sport called ratting (bulldog vs rats). To increase agility, quickness and aggressiveness in the bulldog, breeders crossed them with terriers, resulting in what is essentially the modern day pit bull terrier. On the heels of ratting, the blood sport of dog fighting developed. The modern day pit bull became the greatest fighting machine, pound for pound, on four legs.

maybe so - i realise they are very good pound for pound fighting dogs, but the temperament of a bulldog is one of the most docile around. they are generally very placid and great with kids

i have already mentioned the negative points about pitbulls, hence why i said "in theory"

they can be great dogs - i have been around a few due to my friends having them, but if they were bred out of existence i wouldn't have a problem with it . . . . of course, if they were bred out of existence, the idiots would just get another breed and that breed would then become the dangerous breed that everyone talks about

I agree with most of what you said. Personally, I lived through a pit bull ban and believe me when i say there are no "other breeds" that everyone talks about. Dog bite fatalities have dropped considerably since the ban.

The history lesson was for the lady who allegedly thinks poodles are more dangerous than pitbulls.

Amazing! Thanks for that little bit of history...And I didn't realize this sort of thing occurred in the aftermath of Katrina. (Adoptive family from Louisiana)
I rarely hear about the kind of chaos caused by displaced animals that survived the flooding.

Regarding pits, I originally grew up in rural Alabama where, I swear, it seemed like breeders were everywhere and you could find a number of these dogs owned by many residents living in the countryside. I love animals, but I personally feel you have to respect the nature of a breed that powerful. I have encountered owners who used the pits for fighting and it was horrible. The damage one dog can do is huge.
On the other hand, I have also encountered pits that were just the sweetest and happiest dogs I've ever seen.

No matter which perspective one has about the breed, or the owners for that matter—The breed is powerful and owners should make informed decisions and take precautions.

So because there isn't a picture of a dead bloody dog, this post is fake? And because you are a vet tech, you are suddenly an expert at knowing behavior of dogs just by looking at 2 pictures? I post what I get from a news source and I don't give a flying fuck if it's a pit bull or a fucking squirrel. Fuck off
