The investigation into how he was buried there is ongoing. Steven Reis, 55, was found buried under a concrete floor in a home two weeks ago. According to the River City News, the police were investigating another case when a suspect told officers that he knew where a body was buried. Cadaver dogs were brought into the home, and when they picked up something in the basement, it was excavated and the body of Steven Reis was found. On Wednesday, Police Chief David Halfhill told The River City News that the autopsy was done, but the cause of death was still not determined. The police chief also said that he expects arrests to be made soon, but he was unsure of how many people may have been involved. Right now, the person that led the police to the scene is considered a person of interest and the woman that took care of Reis is currently behind bars. According to Halfhill, Steven Reis was a United States Air Force veteran who suffered medical conditions including post-traumatic stress disorder. Reis received benefits for his medical condition. Christy Mae Russell, 40, rented the building where Reis’s body was found. She turned herself in to the police and was charged with accessing $20,000 to $30,000 of Reis’s benefits through a credit card. She was also charged with tampering with evidence. Chief Halfhill said the case has not yet become a murder investigation, but he expects that abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence charges will be part of the impending arrests.
