Very good question, to which there is a behavioral answer. The person in this stage is also uncontrollably purging tarry/bloody stools from their rectum and making a mess at a rapid pace. It’s a common reaction for those in this dying state to take off their soiled clothes and discard them in the sink or bathtub and die nearby.
