Interesting point.
Could be a 'manslaughter by proxy' kinda thing, depends on local laws I suppose. But then, in these instances, the mob is rarely held accountable.

I'd say the punishment fits the crime. The guy killed one person, which is bad enough, but then kills four more while trying to drive away from angered witnesses? Fuck him.

The news report said he died, I assume he was still alive for a while after the beating, probably died of his injuries.
