My dad once told us that one of the shooters lived in Paterson, NJ (Northeast Jersey) and he would see him running early in the morning sometimes...

I never heard that one though.

I know that Costello (from Abbot and Costello) is from Paterson NJ

no, they teach cops the "double tap" that would be 2 tight shots usually in a upward pattern from recoil. I guess....
