He killed himself because his wife told him that he should bring his work home with him so they could spend more time together but his work was too big to fit in his car.

Machines like that require you to put both hands on buttons so there no chance you will get caught in them looks like he may have jerry rigged it to run and commited suicide!

those fail safes aren't on all machines. and since this looks like another country, they may not be required like they are here (America). I imagine they may be changing their minds about their safety now though.
