Luxury Vessel Wrecked in Uganda, More Than 31 Dead
Kampala - At least 31 people were killed in the wreck on Saturday of a luxury boat that sailed with more than twice as many passengers as was allowed in the Ugandan part of Lake Victoria , police sources said today. (sourced from last week) Ugandan emergency services have been working in the area since yesterday and the number of victims is expected to increase as the search progresses, as there are several dozen missing persons. The 31 bodies recovered so far have been transferred to the Mulago morgue , located in the northern part of the country's capital, Kampala. According to local media, another 40 people were rescued alive. The main cause of the accident was the overload, but also the boat was in poor condition from the mechanical point of view, " Ugandan police said on social networks. According to the figures handled by the Ugandan Government, the ship was carrying about 120 people who were partying , despite having only 50 seats "Obviously the operators of this ship will be accused of criminal negligence and homicide , if they have not already been punished for their error dying in the accident," said the president of Uganda, after confirming the cause of the event.
