A local moneylender found bludgeoned to death at her home in Koh Kong province last week was murdered by her daughter, told police, who arrested the suspect as she attempted to transport her mother’s body to neighboring Kampot province.

The body of the woman, 53, was discovered by the victim’s granddaughter at about 11 a.m. on Thursday.

That afternoon, police arrested and questioned the victim’s friend, as well as the boyfriend of her daughter.

Police also apprehended the victim’s son, but released both men on Saturday after the female friend of the victim, 45, told that the victim's daughter, 31, was the killer and admitted helping dispose of the murder weapon by throwing it into the ocean.

Police caught up to the alleged killer while she was driving her mother’s body to their relatives’ home in Kampot for burial.

Police told she would be charged with murder and conspiring to murder.

She will be send to the provincial court, police said.

The police added that investigators suspected she killed her mother in order to steal her money and jewelry, which was found in the suspect’s possession upon her arrest.

She tried bribing her alleged accomplice with about $1,600 of her mother’s jewelry to keep quiet, with a haul including a necklace and bracelet.

The victim's friend was arrested for conspiracy to premeditated murder.
