You know your right we do need to step back and take a honest look at both sides. For more years than most people know both Irish and British son's and daughters have died in this mess.
But as you step back and look from a far you quickly see that as in all wars the ones who never die in them are the ones who start them. My father said it best years ago "Rich boys come home with medals in boxes poor boys come home in metal boxes".
Weather its the streets of Ulster or Bagdad its not the chidren of those who strat the wars who fight the wars its the children of the working class who fight the wars of the priviliged.
Lets hope someday the maddness ends.
Just the thought of a hardworking Irish American from a long line of hardworking Blue collar U.A.W autoworkers.

well im proud of the fact that i come from the same estate as bobby sands im also proud of my family members who have given there lives for the cause as for sponging of the nhs nah im bupa benifits from having a good job that i worked hard to get but if you want to research the conflict first place to start is a book called lost lives no sides are taken it tells it like it is every death in the troubles then see what you think

I think if you asked the ordinary every day working person who's just trying to live their life and not bother anyone that they just wish all this war and crap would just go away.
I have good Irish friends. One of the wives of a Marine was an Irish girl who married a Royal Marine and her family were NOT happy. So it made life very difficult for them.

I don't hate the Irish. I don't hate anyone if they are just living their life and not hurting anyone. I hate extremist actions, I deplore terrorism. But it's never going to go away.

As long as humans are on the planet this crap will continue.

My dad bought it for me great read, reading a book at the moment called "insider" about Gerry Bradley who was an IRA member active from the age of 17, its a little biased because its him telling his story but theres a lot of useful information in it!

BTW..the Saville inquery into bloody sunday was published today at a cost of 200 million pounds and took 12 years to complete.

As expected it found all 13 people shot dead that day by the British army were innocent unarmed civilians and although it has taken 38 years for the truth to finally be made public hopefully the families of the people shot that day can finally have some closure.

Today David Cameron officially apologised in the houses of parliament on behalf of himself and the British people for the behaviour of the British army that day and by doing so has brought our two countries a lot closer and hopefully we can now build for the future.

For all the people killed by British forces on bloody sunday FINALLY they can rest in peace.

If it wasn't so tragic it would be funny Woodsider! Are you seriously slagging off the British Army for the tragic killings of 14 civilians when the number of people killed through terrorism in Northern Ireland runs into thousands? What about the innocent shoppers in Manchester? What about all the murders of innocents from every IRA killing. The cause? Yeah the cause of ruining Northern Ireland and the deaths of thousands. And did you win your cause. No. Every death has been a tragedy on both sides and for nothing in the end.
