Brazilian Luciano Burti launching his Prost over Michael Schumacher's Ferrari at the 2001 German GP. Although Burti walked away uninjured he had an even bigger crash at Spa which finished his F1 career after 15 races. He now competes in the Brazilian Stock Car Championship.

This is Burti's career ending crash at the Belgium GP in 2001 after touching Irvine's Jaguar. The damage to his crash helmet shows how lucky he was to end up with facial bruising and concussion.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Karl Wendlinger's near fatal crash at the 1994 Monaco GP. Karl lost control of his Sauber coming out of the tunnel during practice and hit the chicane sideways hitting his head. He remained in a coma for a number of weeks before making a recovery and returning to F1. The return was not successful and Karl moved on to DTM and sportcar racing, winning the 1993 FIA GT Championship in 1999. Karl's best F1 result was fourth (on three occasions) and he finished 3rd at the 1996 Le Mans 24 hours. |

Andrea Montermini crashes into the wall of the start/finish straight at the Spanish GP 1994. The nose and pedal box were ripped off and Andrea suffered a broken left heel and right foot. He made a come back and raced in another 19 GP, with a best finish of 8th. He went on to compete in the US CART Championship finishing 4th at his second race at Detroit in 1993 and finished 6th twice at Le Mans. |
