Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
A couple pictures of Dan Wheldons fatal crash at Las Vegas in October of 2011. Very sad day for IndyCar. Lost a genuinely great man. I had the privelege of meeting the man several times and he truly was genuinely wonderful! It wasn't an act. The first pic is before he got into the catchfence. The second pic is the car as it is coming to a stop. IndyCar officials said Dan's cockpit hit a fencepost and that is what killed him. I'm sure there is truth to this, but in all actuality, IMO, this damage, and what killed him, is actually from the cockpit hitting the top of the concrete wall at 170+ mph. They knew people would call for something to be done to prevent this from happening again, and to say it was a post would hush people, once they redesigned that. Unfortunately this is racing, and it is a risky business. Deaths happen. And they knew there is nothing that can really be done about keeping another guy from riding his head along the top of the concrete wall. I mean, its no big cover-up, but what they say isn't 100% truth! lol Just watch a video of it, and u can see his head and the cockpit ride along the top of the wall. Also, by the damage to the car behind his head in the 2nd pic, it's obvious that was more than a post that did that! |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Just a cool picture from my hometown dirt track, Bloomington Speedway. Dickie Gaines (son of Legend sprintcar driver Dick Gaines) ran over another sprint cars wheel and went airborn. He hit the flagmans stand (where the flagman was injured jumping out of the stand), then was on a direct path to come through the fence and IN TO the packed crowd... Luckily the lightpost caught the right front wheel and this is how the car stopped. Dickie was fine as I was BS'ing with him immediately after this. It took a backhoe and some chains to get the car down! lol Had the car not caught on the post this would've definitely hurt and more than likely killed a few spectators!

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Thats not the real reason The real reason is that Deborah Renshaw has no business being in a race car Let alone driving one on a track where real drivers go to work That crash/death pisses me off more then anything |

Ditto, my man! I have been in a couple debates about this. The caution lights WERE on all around the track. Sure, she didn't have a spotter, but it is HER job to pilot that thing and look beyond the cockpit and nose of the car. This death was very sad as Martin was VERY talented, and it was ABSOLUTELY preventable! |

Another angle of the SprintCar hanging from the light pole. This one does the situation more justice. It shows where he would have ended up (in the crowd) had the pole not caught him and hung the car up...

Thats true, I didnt have too I really spent about 2 seconds on it, I was hoping that the post was dripping with enough sarcasm to send the poster into hiding for a couple decades |
