Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Thought I would add this Bandini one from Monaco 1967. I know we've had a large selection but I don't remember seeing this one...

The fact that Daly is alive at all after what happened in Detroit, let alone all the horrific crashes that came before that is so ludicrously impossible that it hurts to even think about

I have that one, but didnt post it do to the enormously intrusive watermark that so proudly states that AP is the owner of the image If the ass-o-ciated pr-ass knew how much I like them and their wire photos before they got smart and savoy online, I would be in prison for life |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
I bet at this very second Phil Krueger wished he had listened to the equipment manager when they had a conversation earlier in the week EQ Manager:"Even though its more comfortable, less restrictive, and its the one that you like, if you wear a bigger size helmet and you hit the wall at Indy it will come loose and might even fly off. It can not and will not protect you as much the correct size helmet will" Krueger: "Hit the wall? Im a super safe driver and would never hit the wall at Indy, im just too good. I want to be able to look around and take in the sites of Indy while driving, so give me the larger size and dont say anything to my wife about it!" |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Re: Mike Hailwood, as many of us who have read the thread rightly sing the praises of David Purley & his efforts to rescue Roger Williamson, it should be noted that Mike was also in a similar position earlier in that 1973 season. In his instance, he was able to save the driver - a certain Clay Regazzoni (there's that luck again!) and he was awarded the George Medal for his bravery. His death, like many others outside of racing was a scandal. Having gone to the nearby fish & chip shop with his children, he encountered a jugganaut doing an illegal u-turn onto his side of the carriageway. His daughter died instantly, he died 24 hours later. His son somehow survived. The lorry driver was fined just 100 quid..... Thanks to Windowlicker for offering up the Reggazoni crash pics after my description |

For all of the members who read this thread, im sure over the last week or two you have had track/driver safety on your mind Well I started thinking about Le Mans, and Von Trips where spectators were killed or hurt and out of the blue a picture came to me in my head of a huge makeshift tower of scaffolding overloaded with young teenagers falling over and onto people at Indy in 1960 I dont know why or how but I knew what folder I put that picture in years ago and it took my about 5 seconds to find it |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
In relation the The Dark's last post, a few pictures of the Regazzoni / Hailwood crash, South African GP 1973. Dave Charlton had crashed, taking out Hailwood, Clay Regazzoni and Jacky Ickx. Mike was able to trigger his onboard fire extinguisher, but Regazzoni was unconscious and strapped into a fireball. Hailwood tried to drag Regazzoni out but his own hands, feet and legs had caught fire. Hailwood had to run away briefly and smother the flames. The marshals had covered the car in foam and were trying to drag Regazzoni out when the car burst into flames again. Hailwood plunged into the flames again and this time dragged Regazzoni clear. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
This is all that remained of New Zealand driver Howden Ganley's Japanese Maki F101 car after the suspension broke during practice for the German GP at the Nurburgring 1974. The front of the car was ripped off against the barrier exposing Howden's legs and although he managed to get out of the wreck he then collapsed with serious foot and ankle injuries which finished his F1 career. |
