Just to put a myth to rest, he wasn't 11 seconds quicker than anyone at Watkins Glen in 79..... it was only 9.  |

John Sheldon Nimrod-Aston Martin LeMans 1984. Before the 1985 race, '84 winner Klaus Ludwig campaigned for an added third tier of Armco to be added along the Mulsanne straight. Sixteen days after winning the 1929 Indy 500 Ray Keech was killed. While competing at the board track at Altoona, Pennsylvania. Keech collided with a loose piece of guardrail from a earlier wreck. Keech's Simplex Piston Ring Special Miller then rolled over several times and fell to the bottom of the track in flames. Keech died in the car. His death occurred sooner than any other Indy winner's after his win. He was 29-years-old. Three years later, on 28 August 1932, Frank Farmer was killed at Woodbridge Speedway driving the same Miller that took Ray Keech's life. Bill Neapolitan died in the same accident. This was reportedly a feud over a pit popsie that escalated onto the track with fatal results to both.  · |

Nipped on here to bump the thread and suggest a quick YouTube trip to view "Truth in 24 II" the story of Audi at Le Mans in 2011. Not only a good documentary, but 2 huge crashes and without trying to spoil it... if anyone has more pics or details about the 2nd big one, please feel free to share. |
