Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

I’m a big motor sport fan; at least I thought was until I have read the knowledge being shown on these pages, I gladly bow to you all.

Many of the crashes (especially those that occurred in F1) are known to me and I have seen them previously. Some crashes are completely new to me and horrifying, perhaps that’s why I don’t know them; mainstream media doesn’t like to talk about or show anything so bad?

I am particularly horrified by the Eric Forrest Greene picture and the sheer stupidity of the crash caused by Jean-Pierre Beltoise.

The Forrest-Greens photo is so is chilling, why does he appear to be stood still, it must be a trick of the photograph, capturing a thousandth of a second? Others have written about the people running away from him, however consider this, in that situation it’s fight or flight, none of us know how we would react. Add to that the scene from their perspective, there will be a huge fire, much more then we can see, perhaps they couldn’t even distinguish Eric from the rest of the carnage?

I had a look around on the internet for more information, below is a link to a newspaper article, it adds more tragedy. Greene came out of retirement to race as it was the first international sports car race in his home country, he was 51 years old.

Story is on page 11, single column story in the centre of the page

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

clearly great minds think alike....
Thats the first thing I thought (right after I thought my mind was weak and feeble for a second )

And the picture taken maybe a second or two after impact is pretty rare (or was rare like 10 years ago)
I was gonna send you a PM and tell you to make sure and download that one, but I knew you would see it

And to everybody, im working on some huge mind blowing stuff right now, so dont think because im not posting anything im done

Its just the beginning boys

Youve got my attention sir. Your collection of F1 crash photos is for sure unsurpassed, and envied by many.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Clay "The Luckiest Man In History" Regazzoni has gotten into so many crashes that HAVE killed other drivers who crashed in a similar way

Here is the video of his crash during practice for Time Trials back in 1977

He starts spinning in mid air and his back end hits the infield mound and he starts to flip

It looks like its going to end horribly, but since Clay can not die his car lands on all 4 wheels and comes to an stop as if he was pulling into a parking space

Of course he has to play the part so he jumps out like nothing happened and then refuses medical attention

Lets just I love the guy

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

It's the opening lap of the 1970 Spanish GP and Jack Oliver discovers as he attempts to slow down his BRM P153 for the hairpin that he has no brakes, his stubaxle has snapped. He attempts to 'straight line' the corner as much as he can but has little control over his machine.

Jacky Ickx is just about to accelerate out of the hairpin in his Ferrari 312B when Oliver's BRM T-bones him at high speed. Both machines are full of fuel and erupt into a fireball.

Oliver is the first to run out, apparently unscathed, but Ickx doesn't follow. He can be seen struggling with his harness. Just when it seems that another driver is about to be lost Ickx runs out of the flames, the back of his overalls on fire. He runs over to the side of the track and marshals eventually put him out.

The level of fire-fighting from the marshals was more akin to the keystone cops. They sprayed liquid all over the track causing a number of cars to spin and allowed the BRM to roll from one side of the track to the another.

Oliver was not injured, but Ickx suffered with his burns for a number of months.
