Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Bobby Marvin was an up and coming Sprint car driver, having won USAC's "Most Improved Driver" award after the 1962 season. He had been signed to drive a Novi at Indianapolis in May. The last race before that was at the treacherous Langhorne, and it became his last race. He started flipping in "Puke Hollow" and landed on Bud Tinglestad's car and burned. Tinglestad received burns pulling him out but Marvin died soon after. The Novi was then assigned to another rookie, Bobby Unser.

What a tough fucking dude. How is he even conscious? And then in the midst of an inferno he pulls himself up of the Tarmac and makes the remains of the monocoque he's strapped to look like an inconvenience.

Burgmann lies dead after being dragged out the back seat area of his destroyed Holden. The bbc cut this entire incident from their coverage.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Savage is basically still strapped in his seat and his seat is still attached to the bulkhead the fuel tank is also still attached to. Swede Savage would have survived that crash. Some 30 days after the crash he was still in the hospital for treatment of his burns and was given a transfusion of tainted blood. Several other people around the country got transfused with the same tainted batch of blood and also died. |
