Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

I know its a tiny picture but its the only one I've been able to find of English driver Ivor Bueb's fatal F2 crash at Clermont-Ferrand in 1959. Ivor lost control of his BRP Cooper-Borgward at the Gravenoire section at the back of the track and was thrown from the car, sadly losing his fight for survival six days later at a local hospital.

Ivor took part in six GP's, numerous non-championship F1 races and won Le Mans in 1955 and '57.
Original post from page 208.

A good sized image of Ivor Bueb's wrecked BRP Cooper-Borgward after a huge crash that would sadly take the British drivers life.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

This was Riccardo's first season in F1 driving for the Italian Osella team and Canada was his second start of the year. Pole sitter Didier Pironi stalled and Paletti, unsighted by the cars in front hit the rear of the stationary Ferrari at over 100 mph, suffering fatal chest injuries.
Original post from page 196.

A couple of new images of the medical staff trying to save Riccardo after his horrible crash in Canada 1982.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Jo Bonniers fatal crash at Le Mans 1972.

Jo crashed between Mulsanne Corner and Indianapolis when his Lola-Cosworth T280 collided with a Ferrari Daytona driven by a Swiss amateur Florian Vetsch. Jo's little Lola flew over the guardrail and into the trees, the huge impact killing him instantly.
Vic Elford later said the last thing he had seen of Bonnier's car was it, "spinning into the trees like a helicopter".

Bonnier was a very experienced racer and a supporter of increasing safety in motorsport. He won one race in 104 starts, scoring 39 points. He finished second at Le Mans in 1964 and won various sportcar races.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Jim crashed his Eagle in practise for the 1972 Indy 500 at around 186mph when the car snapped right into the wall. Jim was trapped in the wreckage for around ten minutes, he was terribly injured and never did regain consciousness, losing his fight for life three days later.

Jim took part in 61 USAC races during the 1967-1972 seasons, with a career best of 2nd at Milwaukee in 1969. He finished 4th at Indy in 1971.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

The only photos I've ever seen of John Taylor's fatal crash during the German GP at the Nurburgring 1966. Taylor's private Brabham collided with Jacky Ickx's Matra on lap one. He was dragged from the wreck badly burned and sadly died from his injuries a month later.

John took part in five F1 races from 1964 to '66, finishing 6th at the French GP in 1966.

Original post from page 31.

Another new post of Koinigg's horrific fatal crash at the US GP 1974. It's not the best image but you can just about make out that he is still in the car...
was the crash in the movie rush half koinigg/half cevert

i thought in the movie that it was representing francois' accident in qualifying 73, but the images seem to be of helmuth's crash in 74

It looks like a bit of both...

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

It looks like a bit of both...
when watching the movie (and "probably" from reading in this thread) i thought it was relating to francois' crash, but the car did look a little different to a tyrell. i thought it might have just been showing some respect to the cevert family, but having seen some stills from the shots, it does look a very accurate depiction of helmuth's car. and to be honest, while i knew about francois and his crash from my teenage years (early 80's), i probably couldn't pin point who helmuth was. the name rang a bell, but i certainly didn't know when and where he had his accident

to me, it just backs up my thoughts of how great a movie rush was - so very accurate, but still entertaining . . . . unlike "days of thunder" and "driven"

hopefully this comes our right, because i respect and appreciate your knowledge and effort in this thread, but is that riccardo paletti after his montreal crash?

i realise that i am probably wrong, but i would imagine his face, balaclava and car etc. would all be burnt from the fire. plus he wore glasses, so i would imagine they might have been melted too and create an even more gruesome image :)
