Kernick got away with it. Richard Cousins, Oran Park 1974, still attached by his shoulder harness, the mini landed on top of him crushing his ribs but Cousins survived.

James Hinchliffe had a bad crash in Indy 500 practice session this week: I thought the suspension pierces the cockpit -accidents were a thing of the past, but apparently not with these reinforced for this year -wishbones. |

In another forum, it came to light that Eliseo Salazar had similar, but much more horrific leg injuries in the first IRL season in 1996. Didn't see any images or video on the thread.

I did see that youtube clip of Eliseo's crash, but was hoping for images. The quality of the clip does not show the damaged tub too much.
