That one was the center spread of life magazine.

Found an old copy on ebay, same as Windowlicker
posted but with the MacDonald pic in the right hand corner. Enlargement of the panoramic shows MacDonald pointing towards the infield and Sachs to the grandstands as they burn out. I don't think a mainstream mag would run such a graphic sports death today.

These are small photos but they are rare images of the aftermath of Italian driver, Luigi Rinaldi's fatal crash during qualifying at Brno for the European Touring Car Championship event in 1972.

Luigi lost control of his Alfa Romeo GTA Junior 1300 in the wet and the car crashed into the unprotected pit-lane, hitting a marshal's post, killing Rinaldi instantly and seriously injuring marshal Jaroslav Bartosek. Bartosek would pass away later that night.

The Czechoslovakian track had its licence revoked by the CSI and was extensively modified.

Luigi was a close friend of Ignazio Giunti and drove for the same team in touring cars. He was reportedly wearing a pair of Ignazio's overalls at the time that had been given to him by Giunti prior his fatal crash in 1971.

Natz Peters firey crash at Daytona Speedway in 1984. The first photo shows him losing it coming out of the fourth turn, the car is hit as it goes broadside and erupts in flames. Natz was hospitalised with facial burns.
