Italian amateur Ignazio Radice Fossati's fatal accident at Monza 1936 during an attempt on the international 12 hour speed record in a Maserati Tipo 4 CS 1100. He attempted to miss a dog that had run out onto the track in front of him, the resulting loss of control taking the car off the track, overturning and catching fire. |

Brian Muir digging out his John Wyer Automotive Engineering Ford GT40 early in the 1968 Le Mans after going off into a sand bank. It took three hours to get out before clutch failure led to retirement. The Rodriguez/Bianchi John Wyer car went onto win the race. |

Nasty surprise for a careless track worker as he gets skittled by (I think) Garcia Veiga's Chevy, Rio Cuarto, Argentina 1971. Can't find any other reference to the accident so I guess he lived! Garcia recovered to finish second.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Made me think Muir was either very brave or very unimaginative spending 3 hours with a shovel a couple of feet from the track. Guess he felt bad for his team mates on top of being a determined soul.

Western Bunns huge crash in the Soul Twister Funny Car at Kinston 1978. Amazingly this was not fatal but Bunns did break both legs and end his career.

Muir did not wish to return to the pits and incur the wrath of JW Automotive and Gulf Racing team boss John "Death Ray" Wyer!
