This is Wally Mitchell's fatal crash at the Symmons Plains round of the 1967 Tasmanian Sports Car Championship. Mitchell was racing his RM1 - Climax when it smashed into the barriers at Bessant Hump, ripping apart the fuel tank and erupting into flames. The driver managed to get out of the car but was on fire. The first fire extinguisher didn't work and by the time another arrived the driver had suffered 80% burns, losing his battle several weeks later in hospital of pneumonia. |

Small but rare photos of the fatal crash of Matías Rico at the final round of the Argentinian Formula Renault Championship in 2002 at the Río Cuarto curcuit. Rico spun on lap two on the main straight and was hit by Matías Milla's car at around 180kph, causing huge injury to Rico's neck and inflicting internal injuries. Rico suffered two heart attacks on the way to the hospital and died around an hour after arrival. Matías Milla suffered major injury to his left ankle and knee. · · · |
