I've never seen any Markus Höttinger photos before, nice posts. Its interesting that John Surtees died in the exact same way twenty nine years later in an F2 race at Brands Hatch....  · |

Yes, same crash different decade and if you want open cockpit racing you just can't legislate that risk out of existence, and it will happen again. This driver looks like he could've done with his governing body enforcining window nets. Is that really his arm?

1980 was a bad year for F2, not only was Hottinger killed at Hockenheim, but another driver Hans-Georg Burger died at Zandvoort when his helmet didn't survive a bump with a catch pole. The link is the two were apparently friends, and they drove together in the Kyalami 1979 1000km. |

Wallace Menzies huge flip at the 2014 Shelsley Walsh hillclimb. He suffered a broken cheek bone and cuts and bruises in the 120 mph crash.
