Kenichi Nagai's fatal crash during a touring car race at Fuji in 1966. A gust of wind caught the car while on the high speed banking, launching it over the barriers and killing its driver instantly.

An article covering the fatal crash during the Watkins Glen GP for sport cars in 1952.

Fred Wacker attempted to overtake John Fitch on lap 15, and his Allard left the road while trying to avoid a collision, running off into the crowd, killing a young spectator and injuring twelve others.

John Fitch has seen it all. On the scene for this and LeMans '55.

The car went over the gravel trap and hit the barrier hard, and the two tier armco split letting the Surtees TS16 underneath horrifically be-heading the young Austrian driver.

What seems even more terrible is that the race was not stopped and a cover was placed over the car with the drivers dead body still strapped in the cockpit, his head still in his helmet.

The photos are difficult to make out, but the circled one shows his helmet (with head inside) on the left, his body stapped in on the right.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Allan McNish's crash at Suzuka during practice for the Japanese GP 1992 in his Toyota TF102.

"I was on a good lap on my second run when right at the end of the corner the car snapped into an oversteer, I put on opposite lock but it spun the other way backwards into the barrier, actually punching a two foot hole in all three layers of the barrier before bouncing upside down and landing the correct way up again. I got out by myself and after checking everything was where it should have been and working decided after a 175 mph, 69G impact I was a lucky boy."

Allan took part in 16 GP's all for Toyota in 1992 with a best result of 7th, but his main success was in sport car racing, winning Le Mans three times, the American Le Mans Series three times and Sebring on four occasions.

Raphael Barrios spins his Escort in front of Jorge Pinhol's Capri while battling for the lead of the Group 2 touring car race at Estoril, Portugal in 1972. Pinhol swerved into the bank to miss Barrios, destroying his car but in doing so probably saving Barrios's life.

Barrios stopped to drag the injured Pinhol clear of the wreckage.

McNish's accident was not in 1992. It was in 2002.
