Andrea de Cesaris goes off at Suzuka during practice for the Japaneese GP 1988. His best best of the year was 4th at the US GP. This was the first year of competition for Rial, a German alloy wheel manufacturer and took six points in the thirty-two GP they took part in during 1988 to '89. |

Original post from page 83. The last photo is a very rare image of a photographer trapped under Arturo's ISO. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Ayrton Senna was hot property after winning the 1983 British F3 Championship and F1 teams were tripping over themselves to get him in one of their cars. The first set of photo's are Senna's first F1 test with Williams at the Donnington track in the UK. Ayrton beat the time laid down by test driver Jonathan Palmer by over a second during his twenty laps. His second test was with McLaren at Silverstone where he was quicker than 1983 team regular John Watson and two other young hopefuls, Martin Brundle and Stefan Bellof. He also tested for Toleman, the team he decided on for 1984, beating the qualifying time of regular driver Derek Warwick set during the British GP. Senna also tested the Brabham BMW BT52B at Paul Ricard where he was slower than number one driver, Nelson Piquet, who would block the hiring of Ayrton as his number two for '84. Ayrton tested with Mauro Baldi, Roberto Guerrero and Pierluigi Martini and was equal fastest with Baldi with 1'07.90". McLaren wanted Senna to test for them for them during 1984 as they had Prost and Lauda signed up. Bernie Ecclestone wanted him but his number one Piquet was not happy and main sponsor Italian company Parmalat wanted an Italian driver. Williams had no room for him as they had Rosberg and Jacques Laffite, while it was Toleman who offered Ayrton a two year deal. The rest as they say is history... |
