Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Didier Pironi's Tyrrell collides with Patrick Depailler's Ligier at the Station Hairpin at the Monaco GP 1979 when he made a 'do or die' run down the inside and took 4th place on lap 19.

Patrick fell down to 14th after briefly stalling his Ford-Cosworth DFV V8. He managed to finish in 5th even when his engine blew with two laps to go.
Didier finished his aggressive drive on lap 21 when he crashed into the rear of Niki Lauda's Brabham at the Mirabeau while racing for 3rd, both car retired.

A very rare photo of a crashed Ferrari during pre-season testing at Paul Ricard in early 1982, no idea which driver it was, either Pironi or Villeneuve.

I believe it's Pironi, Villeneuve's autobiography references that he spoke to some journalists early in the season having been spanking Pironi and said something along the lines of "take it easy on Didier, his crash at Paul Ricard was a very big one and he's taking time to get over it."

One of the reasons why Pironi was an utter cunt for his behavior at Imola just a few weeks later.

A nice photo of Ayrton Senna in his Williams leading Roland Ratzenberger's Symtek in an early practice session at Imola 1994. no one could have guessed at this time that both drivers would lose their lifes during the weekend...

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

A heavy crash for Kris Nissen during the Norisring 1988 German Supercup race in a Porsche 956 after a rear tyre shredded, sending the car into the barrier.

Kris was German F3 champ in 1986 before racing for two years in Japan in the Prototype Championship where he suffered a firey crash which left him badly burnt. He then turned to touringcar racing winning the the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in 1991.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Hans-Georg Burger's fatal crash during the second practice session of the 1980 European F2 Championship round at the Zandvoort track.

Burger's Tiga F280 BMW left the track at the Scheivlak bend, hitting the barrier at 125mph, a fencepole hitting his crash helmet splitting it in two. He would die to days later of head injuries.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Piers Courage in the Frank Williams entered Brabham BT26 crashes during the German GP 1969 at the Nurburgring. The left rear of the car touched a bank, ripping off the wheel and spinning it around.

Piers started 27 GP's, scoring twenty points. His best results were in 1969, two second places, two fifths and briefly leading the Italian GP. Courage would again drive from Williams in 1970 this time in a De Tomaso built car, after an invitation to drive for Enzo Ferrari's team was declined by Piers. Tragically he would lose his life during the Dutch GP 1970.
