Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
This poignant set of photos were taken just prior to Jochen's fatal crash at Monza 1970. The first one was taken seconds before the Lotus 72 plunged of of the track into the barrier which ripped the front of the car away. The second shows Jochen about to pass Denny Hulme's McLaren, it was moments after this that Rindt crashed and Denny just managed to miss an errant wheel. The other photos are just before Jochen set off on his very last practice session...

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
This is 'Big Al IV' the most powerful piston engined car in history, four World War Two Allison V12 aircraft engines with an output of 12,000 hp, still a record. It was built by Jim Lytle has 10,000lb ft of torque, four wheel drive and dual six disc clutches. Sadly this beast never did make a run down the dragstrip, it would have been awesome... |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Original post from page 24. The three photos from the above post and a new pictorial explanation of the crash from a publication of the time. It's interesting to note how motor racing had seemingly learnt nothing from Bandini, Siffert or Williamson (or many other fire related motor sport crashes). Elio was left in an uptuned and burning car with no help until it was too late. Elio's only injuries in the impact had been a broken collar bone and minor burns, but he died later in hospital from smoke inhalation. He was the 1977 Italian Formula Three Champion and had won the Monaco F3 race in 1978. Elio started 109 GPs between 1979 and early 1986, scoring 122 points, nine poduims, three poles and two career wins. He finished 3rd in the 1984 Championship and 5th in '85. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Some new to the thread photos from the fatal crash of Tom Pryce at the South African GP 1977. Neither the poor Pryce or the marshall he hit, Frederik Jansen van Vuure had any chance and both were dead on impact. The fire extinguisher that van Vuure was carrying hit Pryce full in the face ripping off his crash helmet and inflicting huge head injuries. The marshal was virtually torn in two... Tom took part in 42 GP's from 1974, scoring 19 points with one pole and a best result of two 3rd places. He won the Brands Hatch Race of Champions, a non-championship GP in 1975 |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
The fatal crash of Domingo Bucci and his co-driver Arturo Forassieppi at the 1933 Gran Premio de Arrecifes in Argentina. Bucci hit the stationary vehicle of Victorio Zinni, and although they were taken to hospital both Bucci and Forassieppi succumb to their injuries. The driver of the stationary vehicle Zinni suffered minor injury but his co-driver Mateo Marongin was in a critical condition. |
