Arnie Knepper raced in the USAC Championship from 1963-1972, finishing in the top ten 21 times with a best finish of 3rd position on two occasions in 1966. He became well known for his actions after crashing on lap 87 of the 1969 Indy 500 when after spinning out he stood up in his wreck waving his arms to warn drivers speeding at 180mph towards him. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
LeRoy Porter's horrific crash at the DeSoto Speedway in Bradenton in 1990 which left him trapped in his burning car. After around thirty seconds he was able to get out of his harness and drop out of the passenger side, rolling on the ground to put out the flames. He was terribly burnt, sustaining burns over fifty two percent of his body, eighteen percent of them third-degree. Amazingly he survived, but would not race again.
