Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Martin Donnelly and Bertrand Fabi crash heavily at Oulton Park at the Old Hall corner during a Formula Ford 2000 race in 1985. Martin managed to get to F1, taking part in 13 races, with a best finish of 7th before his near fatal crash at Jerez. Bertrand sadly lost his life in a F3 testing at Goodwood in '86. |

Great photo's of the Lotus 72 of Ronnie Peterson at the Canadian GP at Mosport Park 1973 after an off on lap 16.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Enjolras' crash was to see the death of a great hope for French Motorsport. I'm led to believe that he had to rebuild his career after a positive drugs test, but he was certainly highly regarded. There is a fairly bleak quote from a driver who when passing the crash scene got on the radio to his team and said something along the lines of "Big crash here", he got a response of "Yes, but the driver is out of the car and is fine".... the response was pretty cold, "he's out of the car for sure but he ain't fine, because there's bits of him scattered down the track". Sadly though this account may be slightly exaggerated, there's enough evidence & eye witness accounts to say "death was instantaneous" which regular readers will know exactly what that means. Betrand Fabi was another great hope, taking on the huge mantle of Canadian hero after the loss of Gilles Villeneuve. From my knowledge of his fatal crash in February 1986 he seems to have had a very nasty crash which saw him suffer massive head, chest & leg injuries. Despite many attempts to save his life, including amputation of his leg, his brain injuries were too severe to overcome and he passed away 2 days after the crash. By the way, England in February? Honestly can't say I'm surprised that the accident investigation revealed the possibility/probability of ice causing the crash. Canadian motorsport now has a Bertrand Fabi award for promising Quebecois drivers.... that has some good names on it's ledger. |

That's how drivers communicated with their pit crews back in the day before radios.
