Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Nino Crivellari and Alfredo Tinazzo both died after their cars touched at 100mph during the Formula Junior race at Monza in 1959. From Motorsport Memorial, 'On the approach to the flatout lefthander, Alfredo Tinazzo who led the pack in the De Sanctis – Fiat #12, pressed to the left and touched wheels with Nino Crivellari in the Scuderia Madunina Stanguellini - Fiat #30. The two cars were catapulted into the air and hurled clear out of the course, crashing heavily 40 meters ahead into the embankment on the left side. Both drivers were killed almost instantly. The ambulance service arrived immediately, taking them to Monza Civil Hospital, where Crivellari was pronounced dead, victim of a broken skull, and Tinazzo succumbed as a result of crushed chest.' |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Belgian, Baron Charles de Tornaco's fatal crash during practice for Gran Premio di Modena at the Aerautodromo of Modena in 1953. De Tornaco's yellow Ferrari left the road and crossed the run-off area, one of the front wheels caught a rut and the car turned over, ejecting the driver who was crushed by the car. There was no ambulance available at the track so Baron de Tornaco was taken in a private car to Modena hospital, but died on route from a fractured skull, broken neck and internal injuries. He had taken part in two Championship GP's, with a best finish of 7th at his home race in 1952, retired from the Dutch GP and failed to qualify at Monza. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
This is from the 1963 Le Mans 24 hours when the engine of Bruce McLaren's Aston-Martin P212 suddenly exploded, throwing oil over the track at Hunaudières. Mike Salmon in a Ferrari 330LM and Bob Grossman in a Jaguar XKE managed to keep their cars on the track. But the Aston-Martin DB4 GTZ of Dewez span and Roy Salvadori's Jaguar XKE crashed into the car. The Jaguar erupted in flames but luckily for Salvador, he had been thrown out of the rear window and survived. The young Jean-Pierre Manzon (René Bonnet) crashed into Salvadori's Jaguar and was badly hurt as he was also thrown out of his car. Then arrived Brazilian Bino Heinz, at over 220kph in his Alpine A210 M63, he crashed into the wrecks as he tired to miss the prone Manzon, turning over and being trapped in the burning wreck and sadly losing his life.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Giulio Cabianca's bizarre crash during private testing session with his Scuderia Castellotti Cooper Ferrari Formula 1 car at the Aeroautodromo di Modena. Giulio failed to take a slow corner and to avert crashing straight-lined the Ferrari through an open gate. (Other sources say his throttle stuck open.) The Cooper first hit eighteen-year old Enrico Moro, who was spectating inside the circuit itself, then crossed Via Emilia and finished at Via Zucchi, a street in front of the track where it crashed against the wall of a workshop. Seven vehicles on the road were involved and three people died. Cabianca was found conscious, but died later that night. He had three GP starts, with a best result of 4th at the Italian GP in 1960. He won his class at the Mille Miglia in 1955 and the Mille Miglia in '57 and drove for the works Ferrari Sportcar team during 1959 and '60. |

Casimiro de Oliveira crashed heavily in the Grand Prix Dakar, Senegal in 1955, at the wheel of the Ferrari 750 Monza after bursting a tyre. Three months later de Oliveira, already recovered from the accident at Dakar, arrives to compete in the Grand Prix of Portugal at the Circuito da Boavista with a brand new Ferrari 750 Monza. Casimiro de Oliveira suffered another serious accident, which led him to put an end to its long and successful sporting career.

The last lap of the 1976 Daytona 500 and Nascar legends Richard Petty and David Pearson touch and spin off, one hundred feet from the finish line. Petty's Dodge stopped but Pearson's Mercury limped over the line for his one and only win at the 500.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
I forgot to add this one to the above post. Pearson won 105 races, second only to Richard Petty. He took Pole 105 times and won the Nascar Championship three times, 1966, '68 and 69. He won three times on road courses, 48 times on superspeedways, 54 time on Short tracks, and had 23 dirt track wins. Most of the time Pearson would only race part time, not taking part in all of the seasons races, which makes his stats all the more impressive. |
