I'm not in the club yet--I understand. But your curiosity is bound to gradually nudge you closer and closer to 3D glasses, especially when you know you're missing out on great Gordon Smiley pics like this one from Alvin Karpis.

Thanks Alvin & Windowlicker for your persistence with the thread. My own contribution isn't that much to be honest, just feel that the drivers featured here always have a lot more to tell than just "Oh yeah, I saw that crash... AWESOME!!!" Some of what I know is common knowledge, some isn't.... but if by sharing it you feel a little more respect for them, that's got to be good hasn't it? By the way, jealous of Jeremy, he got to meet Dan Wheldon... I never had the fortune. He was, and will always be for me 1 of the all-time great drivers at Indy. Re: Pardo crash above, nothing good ever occurs when a barrier is angled back across the track. See Swede Savage/Dave Macdonalds crashes at Indy, and also check out many of the wrecks from the Swimming Pool section at Monaco. Let's work our way towards 2000!  |

A lucky escape for the seven times F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2010 when he spun on the opening lap and was 'mounted' by the Force India of Vitantonio Liuzzi. You can see just how close Luzzi's car was to Michael's crash helmet...

A similar kind of crash this time in in Indycars at the start of the Sao Paulo Indy 300 between Marco Andretti and Mario Moraes. Moraes lost it and ended up parked on top of Marco's car.

Andrew Gilbert Scott spins out of the 1986 F3000 race around the streets of Birmingham in the UK. The race was very wet and Andrew lost it and crashed into Alain Ferté's stationary car, blocking part of the track so that the race had to be stopped. The race was won by Luis Perez-Sala.

Another accident at the 1986 Superprix meeting, this time a firey crash for Robin Smith in his Simpson Engineering Ltd Thundersports car. As you can see Robin was very lucky to walk away with minor burns.

The result of Scott Pruett's massive crash in August 2008 at the Grand-AM race in New Jersey when Scott tried to miss a spinning car and hit the end of the barrier separating pit road from the racing circuit, ripping the car in two. Pruett has won nine major Sports Car Championships. Three Grand Am titles, two IMSA GTO, one IMSA GT Endurance and three Trans-Am Championships. He has won two Indycar races and scored fifteen podiums as well as spending a season in Nascar.  · |
