Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

I really hate not having the edit button

I just watched the Dan Wheldon video and the overhead shot cuts off before impact

I didnt mean to post that video but when I uploaded it I had like 6 Wheldon videos all next to each other and clicked on the wrong one

So here is the overhead version in HD that shows everything and slo-mo replay at the end

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

This is the only photo I've ever seen of the Chris Lambert F2 crash at Zandvoort 1968.

An article from 'Speedworld' magazine describes the incident,
“Although a lap behind the whole field to start with Regazzoni was blazing a trail through the rear of the field and came up to overtake Lambert as they approached the right-hander over the East Bridge. He tried to take the Englishman on the inside but the cars touched and Lambert shot off the track into the guard rail. Unfortunately some straw bales had been placed in front of the rail and these naturally compressed into a ramp and Lambert's car went over the top and dived onto the pedestrian path below. Lambert was killed instantly along with a woman spectator. Regazzoni's car was inverted, but the driver crawled out almost unscathed.”

This is a piece from the excellent Motorsport Memorial site,

'On the tenth lap Regazzoni, driving a Tecno, tried to overtake Lambert at Tunnel Oost, a fast right-hander at the back of the circuit where an underground pass allows spectators to enter the infield of the track. Lambert lined himself up on the left side of the road; as Regazzoni tried to overtake him on the inside, the Tecno’s front left wheel touched the Brabham’s left rear as the two cars were traveling in excess of 200 km/h. Lambert’s car jolted to the left, clipped the concrete corner of the bridge and careered down the escarpment onto the road beneath. It appears that Chris Lambert was not wearing seat belts and was partially thrown out of the car in the accident. He was dead even before being transported to hospital. Regazzoni crashed further up the road, rolling over several times; fortunately, Regazzoni escaped unscathed.'

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Six times Polish National Rally Champion Marian Bublewicz's fatal crash at the 1993 Winter Lower-Silesian Rally. The Ford Sierra Cosworth left the road and wrapped itself around a tree. Marian was alive, terribly injured and trapped inside. His co-driver Ryszard Zyszkowski suffered only a broken arm but it took 40 minutes to get Marian out and he died of multiple injuries six hours later.

Polish National Champion 1983, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992.
European Championship Runner-up 1992.
Voted the best Polish rally driver of the 20th century by "Auto, Moto & Sport" magazine.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

A rather substantial accident for the 1972 Monaco GP winner, Frenchman Jean-Pierre Beltoise while up front at the 1979 Spa 24 hours race in a BMW. The race was very wet and the car went off at the Raidaillon corner into and then onto the barrier.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the way Firestone handled Brayton's crash. They took no responsibility for the crash, when in fact the tire malfunctioned and just went flat. No punctures or anything of the sort. Just very suddenly lost air. But their story was completely different.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

It doesn't matter Scotty died and he was a hell of a driver. He had an awesome personality and it showed. Some drivers die and some live to tell their story. It is what it is and I love them for it. They love what they are doing and die trying to achieve the best. How can you fault them?

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Richard Seaman or Dick Seaman as he was known was a young thrusting British driver, driving for the mighty Mercedes 'Silver Arrows' team from 1937 to 1939. The team was partly financed by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party and things were getting increasing uncomfortable for the British driver as Germany crept closer to war with Europe.
This is Spa in Belgium 1939, Seaman is leading by a mile, but its wet and he makes a small error. The car leaves the track at La Source bending around a tree, trapping the driver and bursting into flames. Dick was dragged out by a policeman, he speaks to loved ones in his hospital bed before succuming to his burns.
Page 23 post has some photos of the crash, but I've found a couple of the wreck after the badly wounded driver had been dragged clear of the flames.
