I'm Confused! ?

Alright guy's so for many years since I've been up here I have noticed that the title's or para graphs have said hanged themselves instead of hung! So what do y'all think it may be with proper English. Is it "man seen dead after he hanged himself or is it man dead after he hung himself?

Re: I'm Confused! ?

Take it with a pinch of salt.

Some users may be dyslexic, Or may find the use of "hanged" over "hung" to be more appropriate.

The end result is all the same anyway.

Not everyone here speaks perfect English either, It's just something to bare in mind.

Re: I'm Confused! ?

"Hung" is always correct as the past-tense of 'hang.'

"Hanged" is correct only when referring to a person dying with a rope around their neck.

In the latter application, both terms have become acceptable, though usage guides still favor 'hanged.'

Re: I'm Confused! ?

It's hanged, as Vedderman says. Also, it's guys(not guy's) and titles (not title's) plurals don't have apostrophes.
Bare in mind is also wrong, it's bear in mind.

Tim

"Objects are hung; people are hanged." That's what I was taught.

Re: I'm Confused! ?

Also, to say "the man was hung" is being vulgar.

Re: I'm Confused! ?

If you have a scenario like the movie 7 and the dude is staple to the wall, would he have been hung then? "The killer hung John on the wall like a macabre Picasso."

Re: I'm Confused! ?

I've always understood it to be a case of 'hanged' - killed by the act of hanging, 'hung' - the act of hanging itself but not to the point of fatality.

As in the archaic torture technique 'hung, drawn and quartered' when the 'hung' aspect did not kill the condemned but was rather intended to severely weaken them before the ritual disemboweling took place.

There's nothing vulgar about a hung man.
