this doesnt really happen anymore in SA, but in the 80s it was pretty common, and often used as a punishment for anyone who was believed to be 'aiding' the white superstructure....ie, anyone who worked for white people... there was a video made called 'south africa; a face never seen a voice seldom heard' which had live necklacing footage in it....it's really brutal, as not only do they burn the victim but the crowd takes turns to run in and stab and beat with sticks and shovels and rocks......not pleasant.
