Re: The Hanging Bride (UPDATED 5/18)
After 32 years, this woman has finally been identified. She was a 19 year old Austrian student who had been staying with her sister in Florence before leaving unnanounced one morning and turning up dead 20 hours away in Portbou the following day. Her sister became aware of the case due to a true crime program in Italy that ran a story on the girl's death just this week. The sister was able to ID her through the photographs and clothing descriptions. There is still no indication what happened to all of the belongings she took with her when leaving Florence or why she was found hanging, but the 32-year mystery of her identity is now clear. |

Very intriguing case, with a touch of good old-fashioned mystery |

Re: The Hanging Bride (UPDATED 5/18)
Said this in 2020. Prediction off by a year because I'm no oracle of Delphi. *** On the other hand, it makes me think of a video game (is it Bela Kovacs?) where the protagonist says that Europe is a paradise for serial killers, for there are too many countries, too many borders you can cross, so people can disappear without a trace so easily. Anyhow, I'm so happy she is identified. Such fucking nice news to hear. |

Re: The Hanging Bride (UPDATED 5/18)
Just to nitpick, she was from Lana, South Tyrol. Which is not Austria but Pizzaland.

Re: The Hanging Bride (UPDATED 5/18)
Yeah, but my understanding was that she was an Austrian by birth who just happened to be living in Tyrol for much of her life and was thus an Italian citizen. My reading implied her to be an ethnic Austrian, not a whop. Her surname (Rauter) is certainly more Austrian than Italian. But I am pretty sure you are correct here. I just muddled up the translation. Thanks for clarifying! |
