Re: Hanged Girls Thread Continued

2nd is a girl who hanged herself in front of the webcam after argument with her boyfrend. Nice to finally see a good foto of her

Here are some additional images of her. She's got her own thread somewhere, but it's ancient and buried. There's no harm in including her in this one.

Re: Hanged Girls Thread Continued

See when hanged people clutch at the noose and their neck, is that an automatic response? A bit like how you can't kill yourself by holding your breath, your body will MAKE you take a breath. Is it like that? Or is it just something some people do when the reality of what they're doing sets in?

A lot of body movements and effects during the hanging process (kicking, hands clenching, bladder and bowel release, legs rising and dropping, etc) can be attributed to autonomic nerve function. But an action as deliberate and conceived as actually reaching up and pulling or tugging on the noose is not an typical action of the involuntary nervous system.

I'm not a neurologist and I've never been hanged, so I certainly can't make that claim with any authority. But my money is on it being a voluntary, deliberate action, though likely one carried out past the point of full coherency.

Thanks for explaining it so eloquently! That makes sense.

Re: Hanged Girls Thread Continued

I would say it is involuntarily. Watching the Syrian Hanging Girl video, she goes "out" after a few seconds, and every movement from that point on is involuntarily.

Whether fingers get hooked in and such determines if the person is found looking like they had second thoughts.
I think it is your bodies natural, automatic response to remove the tight rope that is slowly killing you.

Eh, if it were completely automatic and involuntary, I think we'd see a LOT more of it in these photos. The fact that it occurs at a ratio of less than 1 in 75 when looking over thousands of photos tells me that it likely isn't automatic.

But, as I said, I'm no neurologist nor hangman and neither are you. So it's all really just speculation.

Re: Hanged Girls Thread Continued

No, the movements during hanging are absolutely NOT caused by the autonomic nervous system, which has to do with things like peristaltic action of the intestines and the beating of the heart. You are confusing the sympathetic nervous system with the autonomic system. The movements during hanging are due to hypoxia in the brain stem inducing involuntary muscle movement, also known as spastic response. It is evidence of profound brain damage. There is no medical evidence to suggest that the brain has some sort of "lower" functions with a will to survive that sort of "take over" when the higher consciousness ceases. It's not wired that way.
