I've done it before. Probably half a dozen times. Many of my best photosets came from me interfacing directly with immediate family of the deceased. It requires a bit of artful discourse, but when you can make it work it usually yields very good results. Very few of my best sets were actually published online or in social media.

I spent over 4 hours on the phone with a guy from India once to get photos of his sister after her death.

Another serious love-related issue ends fatally.

The families of both victims opposed their relationship. Instead of just running off to make their fortunes elsewhere, they decided to commit suicide.

This makes no sense to me whatsoever, but thats the story.
