A lot of them do fill their pants, too. But usually only if there's already fecal matter in the lower colon that needs to be moved soon. So, basically, if they had to go soon anyway, it's likely to come out during a hanging suicide. If they didn't need to go soon, it is less likely.

The urination is far more common because the bladder fills much more rapidly than the lower colon does. In most cases, unless the hanger took a leak within 15 minutes of hanging, they're going to urinate when they start dying.

Anyway, you very rarely see evidence of bowel release in these photos because, unlike urine, fecal matter is usually solid and in small amounts, so it doesn't 'soak' through clothes unless it is in a predominantly liquid state.

But I've processed hundreds of autopsy reports for suicidal hangings and I assure you that, even if it cannot be detected from visual inspection of a clothed body in a photo, a large number of these people shit their pants while dying. It just isn't something that the photos show or that the media mentions in the news articles.

Heh, except for Indonesia. For some reason the Indonesian newspapers almost always mention in their reporting of hanging suicides that the decedent emptied their bowels.

Let me drop my two bits.

I've seen a lot of hanging suicide studies that mention strong abdomen movements of a hanging body - it's trying to breathe after the loss of consciousness. Makes sense - dying brain still has a natural reaction to oxygen shortage. And this is exactly what we do in the restroom trying to relieve ourselves. See what I mean? :)

As for peeing, the sphincter muscles just relax once the victim passes out, releasing the bladder contents, and that happens first.

It was rumoured recently a woman hanged herself at a local hotel (First World Hotel) located at Genting Highlands, whom she lost money in the casino.

Case has been forwarded to police force for investigation to authorise genuinity of the news.
