Does anyone know what the cause of death would be for the women with their heads leaning back? I think I read pressure on the sides restricts blood flow to the brain whereas pressure to the front restricts air much more. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

Yes. In a partial suspension, it's not nearly as painful as a full suspension and is a preferred method for suicide as it doesn't restrict the airway as badly.
