Re: Hanged Girls Thread Continued
I notice a lot of these people hang themselves standing up..with their feet touching the ground. How do they not just stand up and stop the hanging? Is it that once the noose tightens and breaks that cricoid (sp?) cartilage, they are just a goner? Or is it just that they want to be dead that badly? I feel like maybe I'm a pussy because I would never be able to hang myself...and especially if I could call a halt to it by just standing up |

Re: Hanged Girls Thread Continued
Sorry to correct you: You would be able. You cannot call a halt to it by just standing up because you loose consciousness after a few seconds (usually 3 to 7 seconds) once the ligature compresses the carotid arteries and thus blood flow to the brain - you are a 'passenger' then and your own bodyweight provides continuity of ligature pressure - whether you are hanging free, standing, kneeling, sitting or laying. The cricoid, hyoid or any other bone rarely breaks (less than 5%) and usually has nothing to do with the mechanism leading to death (which is the stop of bloodflow to the brain, and also NOT stop of respiration - you can easily hold your breath for 3 to 7 seconds without any problem - so hanging is not 'suffocation', btw.), and breaking of the neck usually only takes place in very long drops, but still hard to calculate even there are several 'dropping heights' around, it is still very individual (body weight, type of ligature, position of knot, but also mostly important and hardly measurable individual structure and stablitity of bone - elder people suffering from osteoporosis are reported to have higher percentage of 'hangman-fracture' even when stepping off a few inches...) Finally, some of those found with feet on the floor have been hanging free when they stepped off from their elevated position - but due to some elasticy of the strangling device (almost nothing when using a noose of wire, a lot when using a pntyhose or a scar), and elasticy of the vertebral column, which both are expanded by bodyweigh, a few inches extra are gained within some minutes or hours. Although, again, hanging free is NOT a necessity for passing out and finding death, as mentioned above. |
