Total bullshit in my experience. Of the female suicides that cross my desk, I'd say at least 70% are hangings. 20% are self-inflicted gunshots and the last 10% is divided between poisons, cutting, etc. Hanging is especially common amongst the young and amongst the impoverished, where other (more expensive) methods may be difficult to obtain. I've read autopsy reports of young women in the US who hung themselves with everything from curling iron cords to bicycle chains to scarves, belts, jump ropes, and other assorted items. Hanging is accessible, simple, and requires very little skill or preparation to set up. It is also often regarded as being quick, clean, and painless. Of course, as clearly evidenced by this thread, unless they give themselves enough of a drop (which they almost never do), they strangle and choke in the noose, pissing and shitting themselves, and eventually die with their tongue hanging out and drool on their chin. Hardly the clean, painless, romanticized solution they hope it to be. |

No, not once. Not in the hundreds of autopsies or thousands of photos that I have read/seen has this ever even been suspected, let alone proven. Many people may find different aspects of death to be intriguing, compelling, or even beautiful in their sense of finality. But true necrophiliacs are pretty rare in this world. |
