A man with a gun opened fire Monday at the historic Teotihuacán pyramids in the State of Mexico, killing one Canadian tourist and injuring six other people at the tourist site, the Mexican government said. The shooter later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The local government said four people were wounded by gunshots and that two more were injured from falls and were taken to hospitals for treatment. Among those injured were Colombian, Russian and Canadian tourists, the local government said. It wasn't immediately clear the extent of their injuries.

Security officials found a gun, a knife and ammunition after the shooting.

Julio César J. R, a 27-year-old from Mexico City was the shooter. Investigations suggest the timing was intentional. April 20th marks both the birthday of Adolf Hitler and the anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre.

Recovered digital evidence shows Jasso Ramírez harbored extremist views and an obsession with the Columbine shooters. Police sources report that the suspect had generated an AI-altered photo of himself alongside the Columbine shooters. He arrived at the scene with a Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolver, a knife, and extra ammo.

Seven people were shot when the gunman opened fire from the pyramid's platform. Six others were injured while attempting to flee the scene, suffering from falls or jumps from the pyramid's steep steps. At least one person was treated for a severe anxiety attack.

The injured tourists are: United States, 6 people.
Colombia 3 people, incl. a 6-year-old child. Brazil 2 people. Canada 1 woman, identified as Felicia L, 26.
Russia 1 person. Netherlands 1 Dutch tourist reportedly suffered minor injuries during the escape. One person is still in critical condition.
