Grizzly Bear Killed Richard and Katherine Huffman, Alaska 2005
In June 2005, Richard Huffman, 61, and his wife Katherine were killed by a grizzly bear while camped on the Hulahula River in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. On June 25, a traveller from Kaktovik travelling down the river found their bodies but was driven away by the bear. The campsite was orderly, food had been stored in bear-proof containers, and a rifle inside the tent had not been fired. Authorities killed the bear at the scene, identifying it as a healthy nine-year-old male. Claims that the remains were those of Timothy Treadwell are incorrect; Treadwell died in 2003 at Katmai, in entirely different terrain.  ·  ·  · |
