Local residents were horrified to rise on the morning of the 25th to find the body of an 18 year old girl noosed and dangling from a bamboo pole in front of a house gate.

The event drew a hefty crowd of onlookers, many of which were scrabbling to be interviewed and give their opinions as to the circumstances.

Big surprise, every eyewitness interviewed said it was clearly a murder staged as a homicide because her feet were on the ground or the noose was too thin to hold her. Partial suspension hangings are apparently utterly mythical in many parts of the world.

The police have not yet finished the investigation, which will likely be pending the autopsy. One officer did give a statement, however, indicating that suicide was likely due to the scene.

The police statement to the newspaper mentioned that she had bled from the nose (very common in hangings) and that she had bitten into her tongue (also very common in hangings). He further pointed out that the decedent's pants were soaked with urine and, more tellingly, the dirt directly beneath her feet was still damp with piss (clearly visible in most of the photos).

It is presumed that she stepped off of the bamboo 'porch' and strangled herself in a partial suspension position. This position does often include a great deal of kicking and thrashing about, mostly after consciousness is lost, which is likely how the small blood spatter hit the floor behind her and also how she lost her flip-flops.

Still, this is the sub continent, so you never know. Staged hangings are more common there than most locales. She has been identified and I'll update the post if any interesting developments occur.

But I thought the face would turn purple, which is not the case here.

The police believe she died around 5:30 in the morning and she was discovered about an hour or so later when people started moving down the street. So likely still more or less dark out when she did it.

Minor Update:

The girl's mother said that she was last seen leaving the house about 9 hours earlier after receiving a call from her boyfriend. She has advised the police to investigate this as a homicide and has steered them towards him as a POI.

Personally, I still think this has the hallmarks of a hanging suicide. The nose, the tongue, the urine, the positioning...I reckon it is highly likely that she had a fight with the boyfriend of got dumped and then hung herself.

That said, those blood spatters behind her don't sit quite right with me. Blood spattered on the ground from nose and tongue isn't rare in a hanging, but it looks a little too far away in the wrong direction to make me comfortable. Still, maybe an issue of depth perspective in the photograph, I dunno. Guess we'll await an autopsy result.
